The first full length animated feature film in the history of cinema
by the legendary genius of silhouette animation, Lotte Reiniger.
Adapted from The Tales of the Arabian Nights, it tells of
the love of a poor tailor for a princess, and the ensuing battle
between good and evil spirits. Beautiful, delicate, hand-tinted
images reveal Lotte Reiniger’s craft and revolutionary use
of the film medium.

THE ART OF LOTTE REINIGER (*)
Lotte Reiniger left Germany for the UK in 1950, and this short film is
a fascinating record of her genius. At her studios in Friern Barnet, we
see how she designed and created her figures, and manipulated them movement
by movement for the camera.
