Children’s TV favourite presenter Floella
Benjamin tells her beautifully evocative story
of travelling from her beloved home in colourful Trinidad
to a cold, grey England in the early 1960s, in this adaptation
of her acclaimed autobiography. The 10-year old Floella
and her family and fellow West Indians have to cope with
discrimination and culture shock in the country they’ve
been brought up to imagine as the ‘Motherland’,
but which feels more like an alien world, at least at first...
