A beautifully animated story set in the skies over the
Adriatic in the 1920s, where the greatest fighter ace is...
a pig? Porco Rosso gives Japan’s legendary
animator Miyazaki the opportunity to indulge his love for
vintage aircraft, with some ravishing flight scenes, and
a stunning fantasy interlude is drawn from Roald Dahl's
aviation stories. While much of Porco Rosso is
played as comedy, it makes an argument for the place of
storybook heroes in the modern world, reminding us that
both children and grown-ups need their dreams.
