Saskia Burmeister delivers a knockout performance as Barringa East High Schools top student and would-be stage star Erica Yurken, whose status and ambitions are threatened by the arrival of a new kid in town, the exceptionally bright and talented Alison Ashley. However, Erica’s campaign to undermine her rival has the very opposite effect. Robin Klein’s classic novel about Erica and her unconventional family in suburban Melbourne has been delighting Australian teenagers since 1984, in this splendid adaptation the title role is played by antipodean pop diva Delta Goodrem.
