Hayat is in Year 5 and really loves school. She must take
her exam today to stay for the next school year, as in Iran
many children leave school to work. But her Dad is ill,
her Mum makes her look after the baby and it looks like
she’ll never get to class in time. What can she do
- will she have a chance to change her life? Set in a small
village, the film’s naturalistic acting and gentle
humour combine beautifully with the film’s wider issues
of education and personal freedom. Hayat was selected
to open the 2005 Berlin International Film Festival's Kinderfilmfest.
