Starring Julie Walters, Adrian Dunbar, Gina McKee and Ciarán Hinds, Mickybo and Me tells the story of two ten-year old boys who become friends from opposite sides of the divisions in 1970s Belfast. Bonding through their similarly difficult family backgrounds, together they seek thrills and escapes from the harsh environment of their city. When a sneaked trip to the cinema results in them taking to the road to fulfil their fantasies of becoming the Irish versions of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, a much more sinister side of life threatens their previously innocent fun. Introducing John Joe McNeill and Niall Wright as the lads, this poignant film explores the collision of the worlds of childhood adventure and the dangerous political realities of the time.
