The Phoenix
The Phoenix Cinema East Finchley is believed
to be the oldest purpose-built, continuously serving
cinema in the UK. Its historic building with Edwardian
and Art Deco features is listed Grade II. It has been
refurbished a total of five times, twice substantially
– first in 1937/8 and again in 2001/02. Run by
the Phoenix Cinema Trust since 1985, it is a community
cinema with a programme of independent and world cinema
films combined with repertoire of old and recent classics,
education events and festivals.
