PREVIOUSLY

Izumo Taisha is one of the oldest and most important Shinto shrines in Japan. After visiting it we walked down to the beach, which was maybe about half a mile away. There's another much smaller shrine here too, but the grounds weren't quite as well kept. Kind of illustrates the well worn cliché of the conflict between traditional and industrial Japan.
